  • A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document that an employer in Canada may need to get before hiring a foreign worker.This document issued by      Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) to checkout the impact of hiring a foreign national in Canada.
  • A positive LMIA indicates that there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job. It means they don’t have Canadian worker or permanent resident to do the job.      A negative LMIA indicates that there is No need for a foreign worker to fill the job because position should be filled by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • The purpose of the LMIA is to make sure that foreign workers are not being chosen over Canadian citizens and/or permanent residents who are qualified for the       job.
